Gas Savers, Fuel Savers – Whatever They’re Called, They Simply Don’t Work

July 11th, 2008 · No Comments

Did you get them in your inbox lately? The sales pitches for so-called gas savers or fuel savers? I bet you have. But beware, consumer advocates warn. Few, if any of these devices actually work.

Ads for devices that promise to save on gas have been around since the invention of the car. What’s new about this latest wave of so called gas savers is that advertising for them has spread beyond the traditional media to appear on the internet and in spam emails.

Don’t feel bad if you haven’t had some. It’s a matter of time. Security Software specialists say that about 0.2% of all spam concerns the cost of gas. That’s millions of emails and the figure will rise as the cost of gas do.

Let’s face it. These mails are tempting. Would you like to shave 70 cents off the price of a gallon? I bet you would! But it is simply not going to happen. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) tested thousands of these devices and never ever found one that produced the claimed results. No, that wasn’t a typo: not one…

As a result, you’ll never find any government agency endorsing these gas saver. But that does not stop the sellers from claiming that they have government endorsement. These guys are trying to take advantage of the public’s inclination to believe “they couldn’t say that if it wasn’t true”. And the public is right. They can’t. That’s why their advertising often features some pretty convincing testimonials from “satisfied” customers. And guess what: these drivers probably believe what they’re saying. But it’s unlikely any of them posses the equipment necessary to test the effectiveness of the products their touting.

When trained testers with the necessary equipment put these products to the test, the promised results never pan out. Period.

The best gas saver available? That’s you – believe it or not. By employing just a few of the tricks we show you in “Hypermiling Techniques”, you will instantly improve your MPG (miles per Gallon) by a minimum of 25-40%.
